Buti Pa Si Manny

It's always amazing (and amusing) how the nation turns silent every time Manny has a fight. The zealous anticipation of the fight is so thick in the air one could almost taste it.

If Mandalay Bay was bombed during the fight we'd have the entire country weeping. And it's not because almost half of our Congress was there. Batasan could be bombed for all we care. Or at least for all I care.

To say that the fight was amazing is almost an understatement. Pacman isn't Pacman for nothing. If i were at the receiving end of his punch I'd be double-dead. Triple. And the celebration after Manny's victory? Priceless. Ahh, what Manny's fights can do to Filipinos. At least we had one good reason to celebrate.

But even Pacman can't change the fact that gas prices continue to increase every week; that several bodies from the ill-fated MV Princess of the Stars haven't been found yet; that GMA is still the President; that people still line up for NFA rice; that GMA is still President; and that GMA is still President.

A friend texted me after the fight, "Mag-boxing na lang kaya tayo no? Baka yumaman pa tayo tulad ni Pacquiao."
I replied, "Hindi na. Sayang ang mukha ko. Haha!"

But deep inside I was saying, "Buti pa nga si Manny."
